Strontium nitrate [Sr(NO3)2] is a white, crystalline, water-soluble, heat or shock-sensitive, powder commonly used in pyrotechnics, flare signals, matches, strontium chemicals precursor, etc. Historically, strontium was mainly used in color television cathode ray tubes. With replacement of cathode ray tubes by flat panel displays, strontium compounds now find applications in the production of permanent ferrite ceramic magnets such as strontium ferrite that are used as refrigerator magnets, loudspeakers and small electric motors. Other niche applications include imitation diamonds (strontium titanate), glow-in-the-dark toys (europium-doped strontium aluminate), (AJ-alloys) for automotive crankcases, ammunition tracers, strontium phosphate phosphors, cosmetic additives, etc.
