A dancer can make the audience hold its breath with a single jump.
I was trying to capture the movement that a dancer has, when she is briefly still for an instant, right after an amazing maneuver, and right before she does another. I wanted the viewer to see the air currents that she made as she moved on the stage, and to see the flawless perfection of her art.
I used cut-work to cut out the dancer silhouette, and then used contemporary quilling to add the dress and movement. I used a bit of acrylic paint for the shoes, because it did not really look right quilled. For the background, I used some colored card stock and added some acrylic paint to add to the dimensionality. Finally, I finished with a clear coat that is also UV resistant, so that the picture will last.
Archival quality paper, card stock, and glue. The picture is 12" X 12", in a 2" mat, for a total of 16" X 16".
