Sometimes you want what you cannot have, or what you do not dare express.
I'm not certain what is going on here. Is the mermaid in the foreground watching her partner dance? Is she remembering when she was younger? Is she in love, but doesn't dare tell the mermaid in the distance? So many questions!
Quilling work. 3 mm strips quilled to card stock. The card stock has a dusting of glitter on it, giving the piece a bit of shine. The mermaid in the foreground uses both classical style, as well as on-edge style for the details. To keep the colors consistent, I used some cut-work under the quilling, so that all of the colors stayed true.
For each part, I tried to use multiple complimentary colors, so that there would be some depth to them. For the hair, some of the pieces have a thin line of silver in them, to mimic how hair looks. Finally, I added some husked sea-weed, to finish the scene.
The piece is 12" X 12", in a 2" mat and frame, for a final dimension of 16" X 16". The picture itself has been sprayed with a sealant that is also a UV protectant. The papers and glue are also archival quality, so that your piece will last a lifetime.
