Another nice collectible for your consideration. You are looking on a 1961 Compton Senior High School Yearbook with future NFL Pro Bowl'er Roy Jefferson. This product is for the 1961 Compton Senior High School Yearbook (Compton, California), titled "El Companile." This was the Senior high school year for Roy Jefferson. Jefferson was very active in school and is shown in this yearbook over a dozen times. Jefferson is in the Senior Council Representatives (page 21), has a Senior Class photo (page 31), at the Sopha Chi Dance (page 73), in the Boys Federation club (page 92), in the Varsity Football Group Photo (page 132), with Coach Fisher (page 132), in a Varsity Football lineup photo (page 133), returning a punt for a touchdown (page 134), leading the football defense (page 134), making a leaping football catch (page 135), with the Varsity Basketball Team (page 144), an individual Basketball action photo on a page showing the key members of this State Championship team (page 145) and an individual Track Team action photo (page 153). There are no student or staff signatures in this book.

Former professional football wide receiver Roy Lee Jefferson was born November 9, 1943 in Texarkana, Arkansas. Jefferson attended the University of Utah where he was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year during his senior season.
The San Diego Chargers selected Roy Jefferson in the 2nd round (14th pick overall) of the 1965 AFL Draft and the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted him in the 2nd round (18th pick overall) of the NFL Draft. Jefferson chose the NFL and played for the Pittsburgh Steelers (1965-1969), the Baltimore Colts (1970) and the Washington Redskins (1971-1976). In 1968, Jefferson made 58 receptions for a league leading 1,074 yards and 11 touchdowns. In 1969, he finished with 67 receptions for 1,079 yards and 9 touchdowns and became the first Steelers receiver to post back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. Despite being the Steelers best offensive player, conflicts with head coach Chuck Noll would result in Jefferson being traded. The 3-time Pro Bowl selection (1968-1969 & 1971) would help the Colts make it to Super Bowl V and the Redskins to Super Bowl VII.
After his retiring football, he remained in the Washington, D.C. area owning a chain of barbecue restaurants and working for various charities. In 2007, Jefferson was named to the Pittsburgh Steelers Legends team as one of the best 24 Steelers players prior to 1970.
