The U480 is a friendly and compact designed scanner, which makes educating yourself on your vehicle’s performance quick, simple, and affordable. This tool enables the user to read diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that includes all OBD-II standard protocols, including the newly release Controller Area Network (CAN) Protocol. The CAN protocol is currently being used in a variety of vehicles and will be the mandated protocol in all new 2008 and later vehicles. This tool is compatible with all 1996 and newer vehicles and also works on some 1994 and 1995 OBD II compatible vehicles.

VEHICLE COVERAGE:
This scanner is specifically designed to work with all OBD II compliant vehicles (all 1996 and newer cars & trucks that are OBD II compliant). Federal Law required in 1996 that all cars and light trucks that are sold in the U.S. must be OBDII equipped.
There are, however, a small number of 1994 and 1995 model year gasoline vehicles that are also compliant but not on the list of tested vehicles. To see if your car is OBD II compliant, please look for the following two items:
1. Locate the 16 Pin OBDII connector under the dashboard on the driver side on most vehicles, but some are located behind the ashtray.
2. Check the Vehicle Emissions Control Information Label which is located under the hood or by the radiator on most vehicles. If the vehicle is compliant, the label will designate "OBD II Certified" and will have a 16-pin OBDII Standard Socket.
