An antique scythe used by my grandfather for mowing wild grass.
The original wooden handle felt the strength of my grandfather's calloused hands.
The blade is made of high-quality carbon tool steel grades U7A, U8, and U8A. The tool was manufactured using an open-die forging process from steel rod, and the process itself was meticulously regulated by state standards.
Handle length: 20.86 inches (53 cm).
Metal blade length including mount: 20.07 inches (51 cm).
Weight: approximately 1.5 pounds (700 grams).
Our family acquired this scythe in the 1970s, more than 50 years ago.
To mow with this scythe, a person must squat or bend at the waist. Using this scythe requires strong legs and a strong lower back. It's a good workout and builds mental fortitude.
However, this scythe is not very effective for mowing large amounts of grass. It's only suitable for small lawns in front of the house. Therefore, the main purpose of this scythe is to beautify the landscape, not to provide feed for farm animals.
