Bobby Moffat, author of Intermediate Soccer, has both played and coached professional soccer. Raised in England, where he played soccer throughout his youth and for ten years as a pro, Moffat moved to the United States in 1970, to join the North American Soccer League (NASL) team Dallas Tornado. Primarily a fullback, he played every position but goalkeeper during his eight years with Dallas, 1971 NASL champions.
Moffat, a Texas resident now, is presently head coach of a Dallas soccer club, writer and entrepreneur. His first book, The Basic Soccer Guide, is in its fourth printing. Intermediate Soccer takes the player and coach beyond soccer fundamentals to the intricacies of strategy, tactics and set plays. Moffat analyzes player positioning and unit play - goalkeeping, defense, midfield and attack. Readers can follow the wealth of information on drills and set plays by studying the over 150 accurate, easy-to-understand player/field diagrams.
Coaches will find the dagrams to be valuable instructional aids. Moffat also explains proper execution of various offensive plays and how they can be defended against. He lists the poular systems of play, such as 4-2-4 and 4-3-3, describes their strengths and weaknesses and under what circumstances each should be used. There is even a chapter for those interested in organizing a soccer club. Intermediate Soccer is recommended for soccer players who have mastered the basics, coaches and fans of the sport.
