Warli Village Tree and River

Depicts typical village scenes from daily life, and nature, around a large central stylized tree motif. Colors are created from rice paste, clay and charcoal. The geometric and stick figure shapes shown here represent the signature Warli style, as practiced for over 2000 years. It is historically a type of mural art: Warli people traditionally painted these motifs on the walls of adobe huts, usually to mark festive occasions. All the various motifs and images convey a celebration of life and the natural world around them. Warli art has only recently become available in the form of paintings and crafts sold to the public.
