Since several years it's known that limonene - an extract taken from orange peels, for example - can stunt a tumor or even let it shrink. Which way the elexier attacks the tumor cells has been found recently yet. Scientificists of the Duke University of North Carolina found that the proteine TGF-ß is going to release a suicide program in the tumor cells, in a complicated process. Normally the proteine remains passive in the body, but this changes after limonene is given.
The extract gives due that TGF-ß, but also receptor-proteins that fit it, multiply on the tumorcells exlosively. First when enough Receptors are there to which TGF-ß can fit, the self-destruction of the tumor cells starts. Healthy cells were not attacked in tests.

D-Limonene and Perillyl alcohol have a strong chemotherapeutic activity against pancreatic (one of the most refractory of all human cancers to available cancer therapies), mammary and prostatic tumors. In addition, perillyl alcohol, limonene and other dietary monoterpenes have chemopreventive activity und can therefore be taken against forming new metastasis.
Several mechanism may account for the antitumorigenic effect of monoterpenes. For example, many monoterpenes inhibit the post-translational isoprenylation of cell growth-regulatory proteins such as RAS. Perillyl alcohol induces apoptosis without affecting the rate of DNA synthesis in both liver and pancreatic tumor cells. In addition, monoterpene-treated, regressing rat mammary tumors exhibit increased expression of transforming growth factor ß concomitant with tumor redifferentiation to a more benign phenotype.
