About the artist.
Maud Alice Earl (1864–1943) was an eminent British-American canine painter. Her works are much enjoyed by dog enthusiasts and also accurately record many breed. Earl became famous during the Victorian Era. Her earlier dog portraits (1880–1900) were in naturalistic style, a looser style, although still highly finished during 1900–1915, and, finally, she painted stylized dog portraits during the 1930s. Earl work had received wide international recognition.
