In the late nineteenth century, powerful and rich ranchers in northern Wyoming start a range war with homesteaders, including Cain Hammett (Tom Berenger), and his brother Dale, (Adam Storke). Their third brother, Harry (Luke Perry), is a criminal, rustling cattle. Cain is in love with Rory (Michelle Forbes) who married Dale, even though she is in love with Cain. The marshall, Hunt Lawson (Burt Reynolds), is corrupt and being paid by one of the big ranchers, an Englishman, Lord Peter (Christopher Cazenove). Lord Peter wants the Hammetts and the other homesteaders thrown out of the area. The Hammett family comes together to fight the wealthy ranchers when they attack Cain’s homestead.
