HAH176 L6 METEORITE INDIVIDUALThe meteorite in this product is HAH 176 (or Hammadah al Hamra 176). Thirty-three (33) small meteorite fragments, with a total weight of 1147 grams were found by meteorite hunters in the Libya dessert of Africa during 1996. Unlike most African numbered stones, the location of this find is known. Reported in The Meteoritical Bulletin, No. 82, 1998 July edition, as 28°39.57'N 13°18.34'E. However, with the lack of geological reference points the meteorite has been given a number instead of a name, which is more common for meteorites. (Example: The meteorites that fell Feb. 12, 1947 on the Sikhote-Alin Mountains are known as the Sikhote-Alin meteorite.). Classifed as an L6 stone chondrite, with a shock grade of 4 and a weathering grade of 3 (Fa mol% 24.3, Fs mol% 20.7). Meteorite contains nice shock veins of the comic mineral Ringwoodite. Meteorite was classified by D. Weber and A. Bischoff, and analyzed by D. Weber, L. Niemann, K. Pollok, at A. Jäckel of Mün: Institut für Planetologie, Münster, Germany. Type specimen is in the Museum für Naturkunde, Invalidenstrasse, Berlin, Germany. The HaH 176 Meteorite in this product is shown in the photographs below. This specimen weighs 147.2 grams and is in as found condition. Meteorite will come with a description card.Be sure to add me to your favorites list!FREE US shipping.
