You are looking on one (1) Snake River Canyon-Interstate 26 Wyoming Photo Postcard Lot. The postcards offered in this product are shown in the scans provided below. The cards show different views of Interstate 26 along Snake River Canyon in Wyoming. Cards appear to be 1960s era and were published and photographed by Lauretta Studio in Butte, Montana. Each card measures 5 1/2" by 3 1/2" (inches) or 140 by 90 mm. Cards are in mint condiition and have no writing or the like. Front and back scans of cards are provided below. See my other products for more postcard lots.The first postcard features a colorful view of the U.S. Highway 26 as it makes its way through Snake River Canyon with the Rocky Mountains stand in the background. Back of card reads: "On Highway 26, Between Jackson and Alpine, Wyo. in the Snake River Canyon. The red foliage is beautiful in the fall, it is called Maple." In the stamp box is the catalog number 42963.On the second postcard, U.S. Highway 26 turns through Snake River Canyon, in the distant background is the Rocky Mountains. Scattered along the sides of the road is cacti and the ponderosa pine trees common to the region. Back of card reads: "Snake River Canyon in the fall. There are lots of float trips down this river in summertime. On Highway 26, between Jackson and Alpine, Wyo." In the stamp box is the catalog number 42964.The third card shows a street level view of the U.S. Highway 26 as it makes its way through Snake River Canyon, the Rocky Mountains stand in the background. Back of card reads: "SNAKE RIVER CANYON", "Highway 26", "This Canyon is beautiful in fall. The red foliage is Maple. Between Jackson and Alpine, Wyoming." The center bottom back of the card has the catalog number S-79198.The final card has street level view of the U.S. Highway 26 as it makes its way through Snake River Canyon, the Rocky Mountains stand in the background. The center bottom back of the card has the catalog number S-79199.U.S Interstate 26 follows part of the historic Oregon Trail in Eastern Wyoming through Goshen Couty and Torrington. Much of U.S. 26 is multplexed with other routes and it joins US Highway 89 between the Alpine and Moran Junctions. The postcards above show this region of the road. Interstate 26 was commissioned in 1926 to begin at old U.S. 185 in Dwyer, Wyoming, and end at U.S. 30 in Ogallala, Nebraska. After the great recommissioning of 1936, it still had the same length, but it began at the newly defined U.S. 87 rather than U.S. 185. It was not until 1950, that U.S. 26 was finally extended west to the Pacific Ocean by replacing portions of U.S. 28 in Oregon and merging with routes (mainly U.S. 20) in Idaho and Wyoming.The Snake River Canyon is located on the western border of Wyoming and runs from the cities Jackson Hole and Alpine. At the southern end of the canyon, the Snake River meets the Greys River and the Salt River at the Palisades Reservoir on the Wyoming-Idaho border. Running throught the canyon is U.S Interstate 26-Highway 89, used daily by the commuting Star Valley residents.
