The 3 by 5" index card offered in this product is shown in the photograph below. This card has been hand signed by Mel Hein in blue Sharpie. Nice bold autograph. The signature has been certified by PSA/DNA and the card has been slabbed in a tamper-resistant case. Card is PSA/DNA #81869323 and has been graded "AUTHENTIC." Also included in this product as a free bonus is 1988 Swell #50 Mel Heim card. Former professional football player Melvin Jack Hein was born August 22, 1909. "Mel" Hein attended Washington State University (WSU) and where he played NCAA college football with the Cougars. Hein was named to the All-Coast second team as a junior.(1929), the All-Coast first team as a senior.(1930) and an All-American selection (1930). In his senior season, Hein helped lead the Cougars to an undefeated record and to the 1931 Rose Bowl game. Hein played for the New York Giants for 15 seasons (1931-1945). During that time he was the Team Captain for 10 seasons and was an All-Pro selection 8 times. Hein was a key member of the 1934 and the 1938 NFL Championship New York Giants teams and in 1938 was named the NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP). After retiring as a player Hein coached for several years. Hein died January 31, 1992. Mel was part of the first inductee class into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963 and part of the first inductee class into the College Football Hall of Fame. In 1969, he was named the center on the NFL 50th Anniversary Team, in 1994 he was named to the 75th Anniversary Team/ NFL 1930’s All-Decade Team and in 1999 he was named to The Sporting News All-Century Team for college players.
