Akili Smith attended the University of Oregon where played NCAA football with the Ducks and had an amazing senior year throwing 32 touchdown passes. The Cincinnati Bengals in the first round of the 1999 NFL Amateur Draft selected Smith, third pick overall, following Tim Couch and Donovan McNabb. Smith played for the Bengals from 1999 through 2002. In his four-season tenure in Cincinnati, Smith started 17 games (215 of 461 for 2,212 yards, with 5 TD passes and 13 interceptions). Smith played three preseason games for the Green Bay Packers in 2003 and in 2005 played in NFL Europe for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
