The Cincinnati Redlegs signed Claude Osteen as an amateur free agent on July 2, 1957 and he made his MLB debut four days later on July 6, 1957 at age 17. Osteen played for the Cincinnati Redlegs/Reds (1957, 1959-1961), the Washington Senators (1961-1964), the Los Angeles Dodgers (1965-1973), the Houston Astros (1974), the St. Louis Cardinals (1974) and the Chicago White Sox (1975). The 3-time All-Star selection (1967, 1970 & 1973) is best known as a Dodger where he would reach two straight World Series (1965 & 1966). In the 1965 World Series, the Dodgers would beat the Minnesota Twins in 7 games, and Osteen pitched brilliantly. He had a 0.64 ERA in the Series with a 1-1 record including a shutout, which came after teammates Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax lost their respective games, the first two games of the Series. Osteen's career statistics included a 196-195 record, a 3.30 ERA, 1612 strikeouts, and 140 complete games (40 shutouts) in 3460⅓ innings pitched and 541 games. After retiring, Osteen became a pitching coach for the St. Louis Cardinals (1977-1980), the Philadelphia Phillies (1982-1988), the Texas Rangers (1993-1994) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (1999-2000). Osteen was the pitching coach for Hall of Fame pitchers Steve Carlton while with the Phillies and Nolan Ryan during his time with the Rangers.Be sure to add me to your favorites list!FREE US shipping.
