In 1774, John Dames, caretaker at the battery on Old Point Comfort, began to display a light at night for passing ships. The lighthouse was built in 1802.
This vintage standard sized (3 1/2" x 5 1/2") chrome postcard is in Excellent condition and postally unused. Walter H. Miller & Co., Inc., Williamsburg, Virginia, published the card. Color photo taken by Walter H. Miller. The code 1608 is printed on the lower bottom of the card.
