Antique Primitive Crusie Lamp. This primitive lighting implement is metal with two small, open well oil receptacles. The top bowl was filled with fish oil or mutton fat with wicks of peeled rush. The bottom bowl caught drips so there was no waste. Each has a narrow, straight back, and the larger one has an arm and hook to allow it to be hung. The "Crusie Lamp," was widely used between the 16th and the 18th century in Europe and early America. This one was purchased in England in the early 1970's.
