Karmic Book is a $2, self-proclaimed art comic that introduces the originality of patterned doodling as technique. Taylor’s penmanship influence exposes the warm visual rhythm of the pieces. You can stop and try to find shapes in the abstraction (like faces in clouds), but I think the most enjoyment comes from admiring the overall form or patterns contained within. Taylor is able to get a sort of aesthetically perceptible texture from even a 2D rendering. This type of mini-comic experimentation really defies easy classification and blurs the line between technique, medium, and genre - being a new sub-category of one of those I’d venture to say. There’s no words, no story, it’s not a comic, and it’s not a ‘zine, but is still miraculously somehow a “mini.” It’s not pretentiously trying to push boundaries, it’s merely staying true to itself. It very calmly defies categorization and I loved it.
