This is our personal favorite bulk substrate. We like it because it simply performs wonderfully and is also quite resistant to contaminants. It was long thought that coconut coir was a non-nutritious substance good for only casing layers, until a few mycologists decided to attempt it for bulk substrate grows, and found that it was on par with manure!

This bulk substrate is very easy to work with, and features about 30% by volume of coarse vermiculite to provide a very airy substrate that the mushroom mycelium just rips through. The result is very large, very healthy mushrooms when it comes time to harvest!

This substrate comes to you PRE-PASTEURIZED and ready to use, and we must insist that you use this product immediately upon receipt. The reason, is that with pasteurization, the idea is to preserve beneficial bacteria while killing off harmful contaminants. If this product were STERILIZED instead, its performance would suffer greatly. Due to the fact that it is pasteurized, that makes it "ripe for the picking" when it comes to a host organism, and you want that host organism to be YOUR mushroom mycelium, and not some nasty contaminant.

The price shown is for (2) gallons (a little over 8 pounds) of bulk substrate, and that is done for shipping cost-effectiveness. When ordering, please select 'Standard Shipping' as your option, as we have again attempted to make that the most cost effective option, as it costs the same to send 2 gallons as 1 gallon.
