Up for auction is an original 1950 United Broadcasting Co. studio acetate featuring Eddie Chamblee & His Orchestra, cut for the Chicago-based Premium Record Company. These were not commercially sold and were made in quantities of one to a few copies—usually for in-studio evaluation, radio audition, or pre-production reference.
This disc contains two historically important Eddie Chamblee sides:
“Every Shut Eye”
Early working title for the track later released commercially by Premium as “Every Shut Eye Ain’t Sleep” (Premium 856, 1950). This is a studio reference cut, made before the commercial pressing was finalized.
“Calypso Blues”
This side is undocumented in commercial discographies for Eddie Chamblee. It may represent an unreleased studio performance or rehearsal take recorded for internal use at Premium Records.
United Broadcasting Co. was the mastering and recording studio for Premium, Hy-Tone, and other Chicago R&B labels. Genuine studio acetates from this location are scarce; Eddie Chamblee acetates are almost never seen.
A true piece of early Chicago R&B history.
Condition
Disc: VG+ (typical lacquer wear, surface marks, and label discoloration consistent with 70+ year-old acetate). No breaks or cracks. Surface noise can be expected for an original lacquer disc.
Labels: Original United Broadcasting typewritten labels with the PREMUIM RECORD COMPANY imprint. Aging/staining visible but fully readable.
These discs were not meant for repeated play—handle with care.
