2- Jan. 1974 - VF! "The Freak Show Murders!" sees The Shadow and Margo Lane work undercover at a Carnival to ferret out the costumed Villain known as the Harlequin and features a mix of mystery and action as they work to uncover the Villain's identity with the artwork painting a gloomy picture! This awesome issue is by Walter B. Gibson (original story), Dennis O'Neil and Mike Kaluta!! TRIVIA: This issue is adapted from Walter B. Gibson's original pulp story!!
3 - Mar. 1974 - NM-/NM! "The Kingdom of the Cobra!" The Shadow learns that a powerful gangster has taken control of a prison and is using it as a refuge for mobsters! "The weed of crime bears bitter fruit... Crime does not pay... The SHADOW knows!"— The Shadow! by Dennis O'Neil, and the masters Mike Kaluta AND Bernie Wrightson!!! TRIVIA: The Ainsley Prison Warden is named Gibson Walters!!
5 - July 1974 - VF/NM! "Night of Neptune's Death!" The cruise ship Neptune is hi-jacked by the Nazi-like private army of General Sodom, while agent Margo Lane is on board! She's able to send out an urgent SOS to agent Burbank, and The Shadow comes to their rescue in a most unique way! This story takes place after the outbreak of World War II in Europe in 1939, but before the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941! by Dennis O'Neil and Frank Robbins!
7 - Nov. 1974 - NM-! "The Night of the Beast!" sees a gorgeous Broadway star is about to be knocked off by a former flame, the crime boss Joey Lyce, but one of his henchmen, who was always mooning over the star, kidnaps her in order to keep her safe...and The Shadow's Agents Margo Lane, Burbank, Moe Shrevnitz and Harry Vincent have their ears to the ground for information, but in the end, "beauty" kills the "beast!"
9 - Mar. 1975 - VF/NM! "The Night of the Falling Death!" A death row Inmate wants the the Shadow to uncover a drug smuggling ring which framed him for murder! Thus speaks the Shadow: "Young or old, man or woman, crime is a cancer, a cancer which must be destroyed!" "The Shadow: A Dossier" is a great text article about the history of the Shadow's Pulp magazines, radio shows and film serials!! TRIVIA: Moe Shrevnitz, the Shadow's cab driver, is reading an issue of The Avenger, another Pulp Hero!
10 - May 1975 - FN/VF! "The Night of the Killers!" sees a corrupt Judge release a head Mobster from jail so that his gang can hold up a bank and murder the owner, Mr. Hensley -- the Judge's business partner...but The Shadow nails him and embarrasses him before the whole room! "I wanted you to hear Flossy's confession for yourselves! I want you to speak of it... to everyone! For there is nothing more foul than evil masquerading as justice!" This is set in Greenwich Village and we get to see the wicked cool Shadow's Autogyro in action!!
AND AS A FREE BONUS, I'm throwing in DOC SAVAGE # 1 - DC comics, Nov. 1987! Savage's wife, F'Tenna is pregnant! The men parachute into a remote valley. They discover the villagers have been massacred by Nazis and Savage finds Chief Botono, F’teena’s father, amongst the dead. Later, the group locates a Nazi patrol in the jungle, and as Savage finds Wessel, The two men scuffle. Wessel uses a machine to apparently disintegrate Savage, just as we're shown a Baby is born!
