The original series features Inspector Gadget, a cyborg with numerous built-in gadgets. Despite his technology, he is incompetent and naive, and is tasked by his superior, Chief Quimby, to thwart Dr. Claw, the unseen leader of M.A.D.. Penny and Brain are the ones who actually solve the cases and save the day. The show was influenced by the Get Smart TV series, also starring Don Adams who voiced Gadget. Gadget's look was partly inspired by Inspector Clouseau. The theme song, by Shuki Levy and Haim Saban, was inspired by Edvard Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King"
