This very rare and beautiful Watch "Planisphere Terrestre" by Pieter van der Aa from the atlas "Le Nouveau Theatre," is a map of the World, and employs Cassini's significant Flat Earth north polar projection from 1696.

One of the distinctive features of this map watch is the scattering of asterisks across its surface. These asterisks denote astronomically derived geographic coordinates and closely follow the geography of the celebrated Cassini-Nolin map of 1696. Giovanni Domenico Cassini, a renowned cartographer, compiled this map based on a vast collection of coordinate readings from trusted scientific minds worldwide. Edmond Halley's observations at the Cape of Good Hope and other locations enriched the accuracy of this monumental work. While the original eight-meter map is lost, its reduced version drawn by Cassini's son, Jacques, and published by J. B. Nolin in 1696 stands as a testament to Cassini's brilliance.
