The Dwarf Cavendish banana is a widely grown and commercially important Cavendish Cultivar. The name "Dwarf Cavendish" is in reference to the height of the pseudostem, not the fruit. Young plants have maroon or purple blotches on their leaves but quickly lose them as they mature. It is one of the most commonly planted banana varieties from the Cavendish group,and the main source of commercial Cavendish bananas along with.
Dwarf Cavendish will do best in zone 9, but can be kept as a houseplant or below zone 9 if protected from frost. Moderate water and seasonal feeding using a 16-10-10 water soluable fertilizer is all this variety needs to thrive.
Current stock is 24 inches + tall and is shipped bare root in a sealed plastic bag in a USPS tube. Please note, this product will be shipped with lower foliage removed to facilitate safe and secure shipping. Leaf removal will not damage the plant or effect it in any way.
Be prepared, on receipt, to transplant this item within 12-24 hours. If planting into a container, have at least a 2 gallon for short term transplant and a 5 gallon or larger container for long term transplant. In-ground transplant should be done after last frost in your local area. Use a peat/perlite mix for potted transplant and soil amendment for in-ground. In both cases, water thoroughly. After transplant, keep in indirect sunlight for 3-4 days and slowly introduce to full sunlight over another 3-4 day period.
