The flowers are yellow and the fruits of the cactus are very sweet and some say they taste like a very sweet watermelon. Native Americans loved the fruits of this plant so much that they are often called Indian Fig.
It is considered a super food with medicinal properties and is often grown in survival food gardens. Turtles and reptiles enjoy the pads too. Suitable for zones 8-10 or containers.
