Small to medium-sized tree. Leaves opposite, narrowly lanceolate, dark green. Flowers in branched, axillary heads, creamy-white, showy; petals falling separately; filaments long, c. 4 cm.

Fruit up to 4.5 cm in diameter, oval to spherical, yellow when ripe. Usually eaten fresh out of hand or used in preserves.

Pomarosa apples spoil very quickly so fruits should be used soon after picking. The large, hollow seed cavity is sometimes utilized to stuff the fruits and bake them.
