Flame Amur Maple, Acer ginnala Flame, Tree Seeds
Vibrant Fall Colors, Fragrant Flowers, Shade Tree, Specimen Tree, Street Tree, Cold and Urban Tolerant, Hardy, Adaptable, Bonsai
Amur Maple is an excellent, low-growing tree for small yards and other small-scale landscapes. It can be grown as a multi-stemmed clump or can be trained into a small tree with a single trunk. The tree grows about 15 to 20 feet tall and has an upright, rounded, finely branched growth habit which creates dense shade under the crown. Small clusters of fragrant yellowish white flowers, to 1.5 inches across, in spring are followed by bright pink to red, two-winged samaras which often persist into late autumn or winter. Unlike most other Maples, the flowers of Amur Maple are fragrant. Toothed, 3-lobed green leaves to 3 inches long turn a brilliant red in autumn.
Flame Amur Maple (sometimes called Siberian Maple because it’s so cold-hardy) is a great solution when you don’t have the space but still want the premium fall color of a Maple. Flame Amur Maple’s creamy yellow spring blossoms last for two weeks and smell just wonderful. Throughout the summer, the glossy green of the leaves stays true and in mid-summer, you’ll get the bright red samaras or “helicopters” that spin to the ground. The “Flame” in the name refers to its blazing red autumn color. Train it as a single-trunk tree to look more like a crabapple or leave it as a tall spreading shrub and use it as a hedge, divider or screen.
