The Chinese/Okinawan art of Pangai Noon Uechi Ryu originated from the close range fighting styles of the tiger, dragon and crane in the legendary land of Fukien province, China. Like its Okinawan counter parts such as Goju, Shorin and Isshin Ryu, Pangai Noon Uechi Ryu is classically taught in the strict Zen fashion of little explanation and much repetition.

Mark Stewart started his Uechi Ryu training at the age of thirteen under Sensei William Keith and is a 5th dan in the world of the Pangai Noon Uechi Ryu family under Sensei James Thompson.

PART 1: Understanding Kata Featuring Mark Stewart. The art of Pangai Noon Uechi Ryu originated from the fighting styles of the tiger, dragon and crane in the legendary land of Fukien Province; China. In this two video series, Mark Stewart, sheds some light on the much talked about but little shown hidden motions of kata. He works with the Sanchin, Seisan and the Sanseiryu kata, giving applications of movements in the forms, some as simple as the bow and opening the stance. 45 min. 1993

Digitally remastered from original videocassette.
