The discerning eye will also be drawn to the handsome maple-shaped leaves. The flower shape resembles that of a Chinese lantern, hence the common name. As the long-lasting blossoms have a tendency to look downward, Abutilons make excellent subjects for hanging baskets, espaliers, containers or house plants and bonsai.
