Tremendous cactus capable of exceeding 15 METERS IN HEIGHT and living for hundreds of years. Very hard, they resist great thermal differences, typical of deserts: minimum temperatures of -9 °C. up to over 50 °C together with extreme dryness situations. Its trunks usually serve as material for the construction of houses, while both its flowers and its fruits, rich in sugars, and its seeds are EDIBLE. A syrup is prepared from the red pulp of the fruits, and sometimes also a wine that is used ritually in a ceremony for rain.
