Ms. Junie is a fairly new hot variety developed by the growers at Solar Dry Chile Farm in the Hatch region of New Mexico. This is the same farm where the famous Jim Lytle developed the Big Jim Chile that he was named after. It is also where the extra hot hatch Lumbre chile was created. USDA Zone: 5-12
The hatch Ms. Junie rivals the Lumbre in heat. Some will say one is hotter than the other but both can range as high as 10,000 SHU in heat levels. The Ms. Junie pepper produces larger peppers up to 10 inches in length. So it is more suited for Chile Rellenos and large stuffing applications. Both the Lumbre and Ms. Junie are sweeter when green. However the Ms. Junie turns very quickly from green to red.
Pods have an amazing rich flavor with a low burn that don't last very long! The fruit size ranges from 6.5 to 12 inches long and can produce well over a dozen peppers per plant. Open pollinated mid season 70 to 87 days.
