Panicles of light lavender-pink flowers appear amid glossy green foliage that turns red in fall. The cinnamon colored bark is smooth, peeling to a shiny light gray. A large shrub or small tree that makes an excellent specimen or group planting. Deciduous.
Thrives in average, well-drained soil. Water deeply, regularly during first growing season to establish an extensive root system; reduce frequency, once established. Feed in early spring. Thin young trees late winter to early spring; leave 3 to 7 main trunks or canopy branches. Remove suckers from the base of older trees.
The fast-growing tree has clusters of magenta, lavender blooms in the summer. Its smooth tan bark with glossy green foliage that turns red in the fall grows 15-20 feet tall. Plant in groups to make a statement all year-round.
