Imagine that you pulled open a drawer and inside are thousands of lose diamonds just lying there winking in the light. That's the effect of this bag. You could carry it and wear shoes and no one would notice you were naked.
The bag is made on a chased silver tone frame with an art deco clasp that lifts and releases the catch. A waving band of metal is lined with prong set crystals or rhinestones. The bag has a snake chain hand or wrist chain strap in silvertone.
The body of the bag is what makes this bag so spectacular. The outside is made of woven silver Lurex thread in a cross hatch style. In each little "pocket" is nestled a single crystal or rhinestone. I rough estimate is that there are between 900 and 1000 stones. Each is four-prong set and not one is even loose. The inside of this bag is done in white satin and has a small mirror pocket in one wall. The remains of a tag are visible but nothing left that could identify the maker.
The bag is 5 x 7 inches not counting the upper metal bar on the frame. It is of a useful capacity. You could carry a cell, some ID, a compact, lipstick and comb if you needed. The frame construction makes it easy to get at everything.
Condition is amazing for a bag that is about 50 or 60 years old. (This bag may be older but I'm basing the age on the Lurex thread. If the thread was not made by Lurex it could be older.) The crystals are all firmly attached, no loose threads in the Lurex and all parts work well. The lining is clean and unworn except for a couple of small smudges that may be treatable. The silver frame shows some wear to the plate or tone but it is really insignificant.
Due to the over-the-top elegance of this bag, I'm assuming it hasn't been carried much. If I were keeping this bag, I would store it in a lighted shadowbox where it could entertain me year round.
I took tons of photos of this bag. I had to subdue the lighting considerably to keep the photos from being one huge blur. I will send more photos on request.
