The daily wind speed is measured at 9 a.m. local time and is an indication of the average wind speed over the last 24 hours. For example, a daily wind speed of 240 km divided by 24 hours a day gives a mean wind speed of 10 km/h. If for any reason an observation is not possible, the next observation is recorded as an accumulation. The accumulated data are not included in the wind statistics. There are two common heights for measuring windage; The data behind this statistic was measured at 10 m above the ground, while wind at a height of less than 3 m above the ground is often measured in conjunction with evaporation. Maximum wind gust (km/h) Maximum wind gust recorded for each calendar month and year during the recording period. A gust is a sudden increase in wind speed of short duration; Typically a period of 3 seconds is used. The maximum wind gust for a day is measured from midnight to midnight. If for any reason an observation is not possible, the next observation is recorded as an accumulation. Accumulated data may affect the date of maximum wind gust as the exact date of occurrence is unknown. Mean daily sunshine (h) Average number of hours of radiant sunshine per day in a calendar month or year, calculated over the recording period. Hours of bright sunshine are measured from midnight to midnight. Within the Bureau of Meteorology network, bright sunshine was generally recorded using a Campbell-Stokes recorder. This device only measures the duration of "bright" sunshine, which is less than the amount of "visible" sunshine. For example, sunshine is visible just after sunrise and just before sunset, but is not bright enough to register on the Campbell-Stokes recorder. Mean daily solar radiation (MJ / m2) The average amount of daily solar energy reaching a given location on the earth's surface in a calendar month or year, calculated over the period of the record. The sun exposure reported in these statistics has been estimated from satellite imagery. Divide the values by 3.6 to convert them in units of megajoules per square meter (MJ/m2) to kilowatt hours per square meter (kWh/m2). This statistic is derived from cloud cover observations measured in oktas (eighths). The sky is examined visually to obtain an estimate of the number of eighths of the sky's cloud-covered dome. A completely clear sky is recorded as zero okta, while a completely cloudy sky is 8 okta. The presence of a cloud trail in an otherwise blue sky is recorded as 1 okta, and similarly any trace of blue in an otherwise overcast sky is recorded as 7 okta. A clear day is recorded when the mean of cloud observations at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. is less than or equal to 2 oktas. This definition has changed slightly over time. Previously, a clear day was defined as less than or equal to 2.5 oktas averaged over the 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. observations. Average number of cloudy days Average number of cloudy days in a calendar month or year calculated over the recording period. This statistic is derived from cloud cover observations measured in oktas (eighths). The sky is examined visually to obtain an estimate of the number of eighths of the sky's cloud-covered dome. It is more common to use evaporation data when referring to open water surfaces and bare ground, and evapotranspiration when referring to land surfaces with vegetation.
