Al G Alexander (1914 -)
Oil In Canvas - 1980's
36 X 55 x 4 inches
Weight 30 lbs
Valued at $5000 in the 1980's
Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1914. Began his art career at age 13 by rendering pen and ink drawings and watercolor.
In 1930 began his Tempera, Gold Lead, Oil Paintings and found that art creation came very naturally. By 1934 motivation and joy of creating art works was all encompassing and resulted in a number of commission assignments in rendering murals, sculpture and portraiture.
IN 1937 went to Greenwich, Connecticut and pursued a period of sailing and fishing along the eastern coast from Newport News to Nova Scotia, learning about sailing and fishing, sketching at every opportunity. The resultant oil paintings of all types of vessels, tall ships, naval, galleons and seascapes are uniquely his own and are especially prized possessions of collectors.
in 1951, Alexander moved to California and began creating his original etchings. Also at this period did much traveling and studying in North America and Europe researching various art museums in England, France and Spain, especially in history of vessels of all kinds.
Residing in Laguna Hills, California, Alexander evolved into the "Master Marine artist and started selling his art in Laguna Beach, California.
The few who have met Alexander during the times he was in Laguna Beach were able to purchase some of his art. No known news as to where his last know location was. I am sure he was in the California area.
I've had this painting for over 15 yrs now and love looking at it. I'm sure if you are an avid fan of tall ships, life at sea, fishing or even enjoy art, this would be a wonderful piece to hang on your wall. The oil in the painting is palette and the rough seas makes it come to life.
Enjoy...
