A very slow growing, small tree or shrub native to the White Mountains of California. Individual trees of this pine are known to be over 4,000 years old, with some estimated at 7,100; thus, they are the oldest living things on earth. Only grows 3-6" a year and after many years can reach a height of 20'.
Pinus aristata is a medium-size tree, reaching 2–6 m (8–20 ft) high and 3–4.5 m (10–15 ft) wide. Mature trunk diameter is highly variable. The bark is grey-brown, thin and scaly at the base of the trunk.
