J. B. Lippincott/Smith, Elder & Co., Philadelphia & London, 1901. Volume XV, of a 26 Volume Set of Thackeray's Works. With illustrations by the Author, George Cruikshank & H. Furniss. Copy # 278, of 1,000 printed copies - stated. Red cloth, gilt top-edge, gilt decorative front cover (top corner), deckled pages on two sides, embossed spine, red letters against a gilt background. Spine bumping/wear, hd & ft, corners. The spine is foxed, and there is a strip of sun-fade at the top of the front board. A large P.O.'s bookplate is pasted to the inside of the front board, with a note from a former contemporary owner. Both end-papers are slightly foxed, in places. Crisp white pages on a heavy stock - a number of pages remain un-cut & un-opened. Page 11/12 is dog-eared. The gilt has dulled all-around, but is still extant, both on top & on the spine. Minor blemishes to both boards, here & there. The book is still tightly bound, straight & true - both hinges are sound. 380 pages.
