Description

Chinese Quince is a very attractive dense, deciduous flowering shrub or small tree with a spreading and rounded habit. Generally ranging from 10 to 20 feet tall, but can grow to 40 feet in height. The spread is usually 2/3 the height. The exfoliating bark is a beautiful trait, irregular patches peel off, giving a mosaic of gray, green and brown. It leafs out early. Leaves are glossy, ovate and medium dark green up to 2 1/2 inches long in summer with nice yellows and reds in the autumn. The crimson cup shaped flowers are solitary, 1 to 2 inches across in a soft pink, mid to late spring. It produces an aromatic yellow quince fruit, 5 to 7 inches and good for jams and jellies.
