Handy was a scarecrow. For many years he stared across his cornfield toward the berry and vegetable garden. There, looking prettier than a picture, Miss Blossom stared back. The two grew to love each other at a distance. Then one day, when the humans had left forever and the farm had fallen to ruin, Handy left his post, crossed the field, and swept Blossom off her feet. They lived happily together and had a cat child, Bohel, their pride and joy.
But rest and relaxation are not a scarecrow's lot in life, and one afternoon Handy and Blossom are carted away to be lawn ornaments for a Halloween party. Bohel is left alone and terrified. After days of searching in vain, he realizes that he has only one chance ever to see his family again. So on Halloween night - a night of revel and riot, a night when the fields and woods, hills and skies, are filled with strange and wonderful things - Bohel sets out on a wild journey that will decide the fate of the scarecrows and their child forever.
