Friday Night Dream Date Barbie and Ken gift set ( Mattel Item # K2794 ) was issued in 2006 and is a vintage reproduction collector set. The dolls in this set feature repro body sculpts and their faces were inspired by early Barbie and Ken dolls.
Barbie is a redhead and her hair is styled in a classic ponytail with tight curly bangs. She is wearing a reproduction of the original fashion #979 called Friday Nite Date. This fun outfit includes a light blue corduroy jumper with felt appliques and a white short sleeve blouse. Like the original fashion, there is even a black tray with 2 plastic orange soda "glasses" complete with "straws" and cotton to simulate foam.
Ken's retro outfit is called Dreamboat and includes an olive green sports coat, a printed shirt, dark green slacks, and a Cuban-inspired straw hat. He has blonde flocked hair and green eyes.
According to Mattel's tier system, this giftset is a "Gold Label" collector set. These dolls have never been removed from the box. The dolls come posed against a backdrop that features drawings of early Barbie furniture.
The box is a "cake box" style featuring a cardboard cover with clear plastic on the front. Two doll stands are included in the box as well as a certificate of authenticity. There is even a "Barbie Sings" 6 song CD included in the package.
