Vintage 1941 Large Cloth Patch Chaw Mank's Dancing Class Staunton, Illinois
Vintage yellow and blue certificate patch. It reads: "1941, Chaw Mank's Class, Dancing Class, Recreation Certificate, Staunton, Ill." Pictured is a pair of dancing shoes. These were awarded to students who successfully completed the course.
Cloth patch is in the shape of a hexagram and measures 7 x 7 1/2 inches.
Very good condition with some minor holes. Note: My scanner has turned the patch into an orange color; in fact, the patch is predominantly yellow.
Rare, the first I've seen. Chaw Mank operated his own dance studio in Staunton, Illinois, from the late 1930s on.
This item comes directly from the estate of Charles "Chaw" Mank Jr. (1902-1985), noted songwriter, author, bandleader, record producer, sheet music publisher, psychic, radio personality, silent movie theater organist, newspaper columnist, world champion pen pal, inveterate collector and Hollywood/music fan club pioneer.
