The song "O Tannenbaum", a holiday favorite, originated in Germany in the 1500's. It became a popular holiday song in the 1800's celebrating the winter season. It became a song celebrating Christmas in English translations as the word for fir: "die tanne", was replaced by "Christmas" in English translations. ("Christmas tree" in German is: "der Weihnachtsbaum", which does not appear in the German language versions.)
This mandala is inspired by a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. Green for the tree, gold, white, and red for the decorations. Imagine the mandala is depicting the tree from above. The white star in the center represents the star that is often set on top of the tree.
This mandala is crocheted with cotton yarn, mixed with metallic tencel threads and is suspended within a brass colored metal ring.
