Chiparus was an Art-Deco era sculptor of dancers who lived and worked in Paris. His sculptures were renowned, produced between 1914 and 1933, and made in a combination of bronze and ivory that allowed for dramatic, stylized structure, a technique known as Chryselephantine. His later works in the 1920s were influenced by Chiparus 's growing fascination with Egypt. Chiparus sculptures early on were created in realism and exhibited at the Salon in 1914. After Pharaoh Tutankhamen 's tomb was excavated in 1922, Chiparus created sculptures inspired by Egypt, such as Egyptian Dancer.
