This scarf is knitted from 100% raw silk. Raw silk is incredibly soft and has an interesting texture due to its uneven spinning.
It is exceedingly lightweight, making it perfect for summer wear and for people who do not like a lot of bulk around their necks. However, in the winter, silk also has the amazing capacity to hold heat, making it as warm as heavier, thicker scarves.
This scarf represents many hours of labor (more than I had originally intended, I can tell you that!). It was knit on size 3 bamboo needles and has a thick, hand-knotted fringe. It contains my signature twisted purl stitch, which not only separates it from machine-knitted scarves, but makes, in my opinion, a more solid knit.
Any anomalies in the knit are caused by the unique texture and variations in the raw silk thread and should not be regarded as defects. It is a natural result of knitting for the edges of the scarf to roll to the back. You may apply an iron if you wish to flatten it out.
The knitted portion of the scarf is approximately 60” long. Including fringe, it is a total of 70” long.
Care Instructions: Hand wash in Woolite and lay flat to dry. Do not agitate or tumble or the fringe will become knotted. Iron on a low setting. Store flat to avoid the edges rolling.
Allergy information: Produced in a facility which also produces cat hair.
