A Tramp Abroad by Mark Twain second edition 1880 two volumes in the original cloth is for sale. A Tramp Abroad was published by Chatto and Windus in London in 1880.

Mark Twain A Tramp Abroad is in the original binding which is green with black decorations to the front boards, back boards and to the spines, with gilt lettering to the spines.

Mark Twain A Tramp Abroad Volume 1 is in Very Good condition with corner knocks, knocks to the top and bottom of the spine and light marks. Mark Twain A Tramp Abroad Volume 2 is in the same Very Good condition.

Mark Twain A Tramp Abroad Volume 1 has 328 numbered pages, edges untrimmed, with blue floral endpapers on a white background to the front and back of the book, with a Mark Twain illustration frontispiece of Mark Twain smoking a pipe beneath which is a facsimile Mark Twain signature.

The pages are in overall Very Good condition with a name in a neat hand applied to the top of the Title Page from a previous owner.
Mark Twain A Tramp Abroad Volume 2 has 304 numbered pages plus 32 pages of advertisements to the end of the book. The endpapers are also of a blue floral design on a white background. In Mark Twain A Tramp Abroad Volume 2 pasted onto the page opposite the Title Page is a contemporary newspaper article of Mark Twain’s famous speech in German given at Vienna on 31st October 1897.

The title of the newspaper article is “Mark Twain’s Great Achievement Speaks in German at Vienna” and reads (in part): “Mark Twain last night received a splendid ovation from the literary world of Vienna at a “festkneipe”, a sort of free and easy banquet given by the “Concordia” Association of Writers and Journalists.” It was during Mark Twain’s tour of Europe that it was misreported that he had died to which an amused Mark Twain famously quoted as saying: “The report of my death was an exaggeration.”

As a result of the article there is light offsetting to the Title Page. But, this is an important and rare Mark Twain article from the time. All other pages are in Very Good condition.
