First Edition hardcover is in good condition and shows modest signs of wear to covers. DJ is protected with mylar and not clipped. Retired library copy with the usual marks and attachments. 469 pages. Hardcover binding. Year: 1966 ISBN: 0297173871 The chronicle begins with Avrom Glickman's journey from Cape Town to Lithuania early in the century, to fetch his wife, and ends with the birth of his great-granddaughter in London some fifty years later, an end, and a beginning. The account of the troubled years between follows the interlocking destinies of the Glickmans and the shapes each of their lives assumes. Avrom's sons, Meyer and Benjamin, become wealthy in South Africa. At the end of their lives Benjamin and his wife retire to Eretz Israel. The younger generation passes through turbulent university years, falls in and out of love, lines up in action for and against different groups and ideologies, deplores the provincialism of their surroundings, spins farther and farther from the family orbit.
