Red Stalk celery has been grown since the 1700s. This celery has more of a robust flavor than many others, making it excellent for soups or stews. The stalks are thinner than modern celery, but the red color of the stalks is a nice addition to the garden.

Propagation Method: From seed, sow seeds indoors 6 weeks before last spring frost. Sprinkle seed onto moist soil. Celery prefers light to germinate. About 10 days before the last spring frost, begin hardening the plants to the outdoors. Transplant your plants to a sunny, highly composted location when soil temperatures are at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit .
