Joe Garagiola was among the founding fathers of "B.A.T.", which was founded to confidentially help members of the Baseball Family who were in need of assistance with nowhere else to turn. Garagiola served as B.A.T. President for many years, volunteering his time for others less fortunate. It was at the 1991 BAT Awards Banquet that Joe Garagiola penned a perfect mint signature on this 1990 World Series Baseball.
The Baseball Assistance Team enjoys a significant amount of support among members of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Also present at the 1991 BAT Awards Dinner, and signing their name to this ball were the following baseball notables:
