Mentha requienii or Corsican mint is among the smallest plants in the mint family. It is a mat forming, creeping herb species of mint, native to Corsica, Sardinia, and mainland Italy. It is a very low-growing species with bright green leaves and a strong minty aroma. Lilac or pink flowers. Zone 6. Best with constant moisture and part shade. The leaves of Corsican mint can be consumed raw or after cooking. They have a potent aroma akin to that of peppermint and are employed to flavor various types of salads, desserts, drinks, cooked items and even liqueurs. Used to make crème-de-menthe. The leaves are also used to prepare an herbal tea.
